Art & Design Department Chair Stephanie Silverman ’00 Appointed to NAEA Steering Committee, Featured National Panelist

Archmere Art & Design Department Chair Mrs. Stephanie Silverman ’00 was recently invited by the National Art Education Association President, Mario Rossero, to serve on a Steering Committee for the organization to support the national membership and identify opportunities for organizational growth and change. Mrs. Silverman is one of four invited panelists for a special session titled, Art and Design Educators: Change Agents in Redesigning Education, at the forthcoming April 2024 NAEA Convention in Minneapolis, MN.

Along with three distinguished colleagues in the field of design education, Mrs. Silverman will explain how to become a leader in education, why this is the time for art education to take a central role in interdisciplinary future-forward education, and broadly address anticipated changes and trends underway in education that will require creative dispositions fostered in authentic creative problem-solving using design thinking. She also collaborated with panelists this past summer to create a framework for the NAEA membership to support art and design educators in a central role for predicted future changes in education.

About Mrs. Silverman:

Stephanie Silverman is a 2000 graduate of Archmere Academy, the 2013 Delaware Secondary Art Educator of the Year, the 2016 National Eastern Region Secondary Art Educator of the year, and most recently was honored as the 2021 Rhode Island School of Design’s Distinguished Alumna in Art & Design Education. She is currently in her fourth year of doctoral studies in Curriculum & Instruction at Indiana University.
